1/10: 17 years ago, I got a small booklet about cars of Mercedes Benz in my hands. When I flipped through it, I discovered a picture of a Pagoda with an enlarged powerdome on the hood (same picture than in the SL book from Guenther Engelen). This was the 6.3 l Pagoda,, which was build 1967 under the lead of Erich Waxenberger,, tolerated by Rudolph Uhlenhaut and without knowledge of the Mercedes board of directors. During this discovery, I was working on my “tail fin” (the W 111 220 SE with a 4,5 liter engine and 5 gear transmission) and it became immediately clear, that my next project will be the power pagoda in the booklet! It is worth mentioning, that until this point of time all these vintage car projects were of completely private natures and had nothing to do with my car repair shop.
However, this was supposed to change suddenly upon the publication of a report about my “Power Pagoda” in an edition of the vintage car magazine “Oldtimer Markt” in April 2010. I had actually not planned to sell the SL, which was exhibited at the “Oldtimer Markt” booth on the Techno Classica fair, but at the end of the fair it was sold and I had plenty of additional orders on hand from vintage car enthusiasts. At this time, my hobby became my profession and an additional challenge for a 3 employee car repair shop!
